Daintree Rainforest Wildlife
photographed at Thylogale
by David & Diane Armbrust
Amethystine
Python
Morelia amethistina

Here he has
the head, neck and shoulders down and is working his way over the torso of the
pademelon. The python had coils around the body of the pademelon and was
exerting enormous pressure in a series of pulses to dislocate and elongate the
body of his prey. Looking through the coil of the snake on the left you can see his scale pattern just starting to change as he begins to stretch to accommodate
his enormous meal.
This changing scale pattern is very obvious in the next
photo.
