A friendly, ground
feeding dove with a very pleasant call, the Bar-shouldered can be seen in large numbers during the
dry season gathered at concentrations of food. They usually breed
throughout the year in the Tropics, nesting in Pandanus Palms. Males
display by fanning and raising their tail, bowing and cooing whilst
following closely behind the female.
Although the Bar-shouldered
Doves seem to have adapted well to human settlement the introduced Spotted
Turtle-dove seems to be displacing them in their southern
range.
