Black
Butcherbird
Cracticus quoyi

The Black Butcherbird is the
largest of Australia's butcherbirds and is a major predator on other small birds
and their nestlings. They also feed on frogs, lizards and insects. In typical
Butcherbird fashion they wedge their prey in a fork of a branch and strip the
flesh off with their hooked bill. They are found in rainforest, mangroves and
fringing coastal forests and are the only butcherbird to live almost exclusively
in rainforest
Both the male and the female share
in the nest building, incubation and the feeding of the young.
