Brown Quail, Coturnix australis

The Brown and the Stubble Quail are the largest of Australia's Quail. They are found in the wetter coastal and subcoastal regions in pairs or loose non-breeding coveys of up to 30. The Tasmanian race is larger with a yellow eye and the mainland race with a reddish eye. Nest is a small depression in the ground, lined with grass and leaves. It is usually placed near water in dense cover under tuft of grass or bush.
