Carpet Python
Morelia spilotes variegata

The Carpet or Diamond Pythons are found under an enormous variety of conditions, from rainforest to a variety of semi-arid coastal and inland habitats. Mainly aboral but will often be found living underground in burrows made by other animals. Mostly nocturnal and crepuscular. It feeds on a variety of terrestrial vertebrates.

This lovely specimen adopted this same pose every night for about three weeks until he eventually caught a Melomys burtoni.
