Red Leaf
Fig
Ficus congesta

Figs are an important food source for
a variety of birds, mammals and insects consequently they are generally
classified as being 'key stone' species.

Australian figs also have a symbiotic
relationship with particular species of wasps. These wasps lay their eggs in the
flowers of the fruit and in the process pollinate the flower for the fig.
The ripening fig then provides a food source for the larva of the wasp. Neither
can exist without the other.
