A semi-aquatic, arboreal lizard, often seen lying on branches overhanging water. When disturbed it will drop from great heights to escape. Feeds on a variety of insects and aquatic organisms, including frogs as well as other small terrestrial vertebrates. Grows to about 1 metre in length. The female incubates her eggs in warm sand.
