Swamp wallaby joey eating rainforest leaf

The Swamp Wallaby lives in thick undergrowth in forests, woodlands and heaths. A combination of genetic, reproductive, dental and behavioural characteristics set this wallaby so far apart from all other wallabies that it is classified as the sole living member of the genus Wallabia.

The unusual diet of  ferns, shrubs and bushes gives this very beautiful animal a distinctive scent which has led to them being known unkindly by some people as "Stinkers".
